This weekend we had a family date and spent it in one of our favorite Nashville locations 12 South. Each time we venture downtown I wonder why we don't visit this particular location more often. Nestled directly in the middle of quaint homes is a lively, hip strip, where on a sunny day each storefront is busting at the seams with locals and tourists alike.

On any given weekend you'll find the streets busy with patrons looking to eat yummy food, get in some great shopping, and take Instagrammable photos. In true Southern fashion everyone is kind and welcoming. Someone in our family of 5 always seems to start up a conversation with another 12 South visitor, whether human or dog, sometimes about the weather, sometimes asking for directions, sometimes complimenting each other on cute kiddos. It's the Southern way!

As someone who makes their home in Nashville, there are few places we visit outside of our little bubble, but you can't keep us away from 12 South. If you are coming into Nashville, even if for a quick weekend trip, or if you live in a surrounding town of Nashville and looking for some fun in the city, 12 South is a must stop!

Here is some of our favorites and local hot spots you must stop at when visiting 12 South.

COFFEE:

Frothy Monkey - hip coffeebar with locally brewed beans that is a popular local hot spot. They also have a dinner menu!

Portland Brew - artsy atmosphere bringing the northwest down south.

WHERE TO EAT:

bartaco - creative tacos served in a stylish Mexican environment. You may find an influencer or two sipping margs on the patio.

Burger Up - locally sourced, cleverly created burgers served up in a comfortable atmosphere. Craft beers and spiked milkshakes. Very family friendly! PS Get the truffle fries!

WHERE TO DRINK:

**restaurants listed above have an impressive drink menu as well.

12 South Tap Room - craft beers and signature cocktails served in a retro environment with live music. It's a win for sure!

DESSERT:

Five Daughter's Bakery - donuts made by the angels themselves. Before you head out though, call the store, because once they are sold out they close up shop!

Jeni's Ice Cream - yummy, super creative ice creams and ice cream sandwiches. Be ready to not know what in the world you should get!

S'more Love Bakery - traveling s'mores camper with clever creatives featuring the ever favorite s'more dessert. It must be noted, this isn't always in 12 South, as is with most food trucks. If you get lucky, awesome. If you want to find it, check here.

Blue Monkey Shaved Ice - always a favorite for the kids, and there is always a long line for this icy treat. Once again, another food truck here, so it could be a hit or miss in 12 South. Check here to locate it if you are craving a shaved ice!

SHOPPING:

Emerson Grace - hand picked fashion for women. Hip and very on trend.

Draper James - Reese Witherspoon's Southern lifestyle store. Look for the blue stripes!

Madewell - Infamous for their denim.

Savant Vintage - A little of this, a little of that. Always worth a peek to see what treasures they have.

PHOTO OPPS:

**occasionally you will also find Amelia's Flower Truck parked outside Imogene + Willie (another clothing boutique located in the area) If you are looking for these trucks, check their website here to see where they will be on a specific day.

The Draper James Stripes - as mentioned above.

I Believe in Nashville - located directly across from the blue stripes. You can't miss it.
