Sometimes a rainy weekend is just what we need to get us to slow down and relax. But often times we get so overwhelmed with having the kids inside all day long! It's easy to get stressed with how to busy the kids and keep them from saying the dreaded phrase. "Mom, I'm bored!" So how can you have a relaxing weekend while still keeping your kids entertained??
The first thing I recommend doing is prepping them for the upcoming weekend especially if you are a regular on the go family. Just let them know its going to be raining and you've decided it would be best to stay indoors and do things you rarely get to do. Ask them if they have any ideas!
One thing Zion and Elle loved doing when they were younger is playing and creating in the kitchen! If I knew the day would be spent inside and asked them what they would like to do the would always say..."HAVE A BAKE OFF!" With a little help from their creative minds, I would plan out what they would make and buy the ingredients. Sometimes it was a simple boxed cake or cookie mix, other times I let them try their hands at more advanced desserts like macarons or chocolate soufflés.
Sometimes we forget about all the great games we miss out on just due to time constraints! I know we personally have a stack of board games we don't play often because they take so long to complete and could literally go on forever. You know the ones! Take a look at the top of the closet, pull out one of "those" games, and PLAY A BOARD GAME YOU RARELY PLAY. Another really great tip here is to realize you don't have to complete it all in one sitting. Take breaks and come back to it during the day!
I don't know about you, but there are a handful of card games we have yet to teach our kids. Everyone has a deck of cards lying around and if not, they are an easy and inexpensive pick up at the grocery store. Think of those classic games like War, Rummy, Poker, Texas Hold 'Em and take the time to TEACH YOUR KIDS A NEW CARD GAME. What's even more fun here is now you all have something you can play together which really encourages more time spent together!
I know this may not be the most popular, but I personally LOVE a good lazy day on the couch! Some of my favorite memories from before we had kids is when Nandor and I would binge watch TV shows. Looking at you, LOST. What a fun way to INTRODUCE YOUR KIDS TO TV SHOWS OR MOVIES YOU LOVED AS A KID than with you right there enjoying it with them! Take out all your comfiest blankets, pile on top of them with pillows, and eat snack you loved as a kid!!
