My kids seriously think I'm a hero when I throw the word "party" onto the end of any word! Go ahead... try it with your kids! Add the word party onto the end of "bath" or "walk" and watch their eyes light up!! I guess I can't blame them though! When they hear PARTY their minds instantly go to FUN... eating sweets, playing games, and having a grand ole time!!
Truth be told, parties in the traditional sense can be overwhelming and 1 time a year is more than enough, am I right?!?

Celebrating something (anything) doesn't have to be that big of a deal though! In fact, if I make it a big deal, most times it doesn't happen but when I give myself a little grace where I'm not required to serve a 5-course meal, have a homemade dessert, or even have tons of decorations, it makes the task seem so much easier and much more fun for everyone, myself included! And since I've adopted this way of thinking, we celebrate way more often! It's all about making memories and this falls right in line with my new life motto of "Live Simply."
With the summer coming to a close, I wanted to show my kiddos just how much I enjoyed spending the last 3 months with them! What better way than with a s'mores party in our backyard?!? And y'all, it seriously couldn't have been a better time! We talked about our summer bucket list that didn't quite get completed, they shared some of their favorite moments from sleep-away camp, we talked about our Disney cruise from earlier this year, and we took votes on where to spend our vacation in the Spring (Disney cruise won!). Oh, and did I mention, the s'mores were our dinner?!? That earned me some super cool mom points until around 8pm when they were officially "starving."
The pics show my super (duper) simple basic set up! In fact, I purchased nothing new for decor or display. I threw a burlap runner over one of my outdoor distressed chairs and grabbed a few display pieces from my cabinets for the s'mores items. Drinks were served on one of the tables from my front porch and I added a couple citronella candles to pull double-duty of looking cute and keeping the bugs away! These adorable mermaid glasses were picked up at the local dollar store and are seriously one of my favorite purchases from this summer!

I told you this was super (duper) easy right?!? Well, continued in that theme are the cocktails and mocktails (because no party is complete without a drink, am I right?)! I was first introduced to Owl's Brewthrough a local shop here in Brentwood, TN. Owl's Brew specializes in flavorful, fragrant tea mixers that are uniquely crafted to be mixed with wine, liquor, beer or your favorite non-alcoholic mixer too! Each is freshly brewed from real herbs, spices, and fruits, sweetened with agave nectar. The tea flavors range from classic English Breakfast to clean green tea to refreshing white tea!On top of being absolutely, insanely delicious, they are in fact super easy to work with! Sure you can fancy them up by using the recipe printed on the back of each bottle, however, for my super (duper) simple backyard party, I added 1 part liquor to 2 parts Owl's Brewfor the cocktail, and for the children's mocktail, we used lemon-lime soda. We poured each over ice and they were perfectly delicious!! You can officially say goodbye to that old school vodka-cran with lime!! Oh, and did I mention they are 1/3 the calories of comparable mixers?? We enjoyed Owl's Brew Pink & Blackwhich packs a serious flavor punch of Darjeeling tea with a hint of hibiscus. Oh so yum and refreshing!! Your taste buds will be firing all over the place even with this two ingredient drink!!
Hold on! Before you head to their site to purchase every flavor of Owl's Brew currently available, let me tell you about their newly released Radlers! If you are in Tennessee, these part tea, part beer refreshing drinks have just been released and these are also available throughout other areas in the Northeast and Southeast. The names alone sold me because who doesn't want to drink something called WICKED WATERMELON or THAT'S MY JAM?!?The names alone draw you into the flavor! The packaging is clever and seriously cute and you will happily hold this can in your hand! When my husband and I popped these open, my first reaction (once again) was FLAVOR! This is so much more than a beer! You get an instant urge to be in the middle of a field, barefoot, with the sun beating down on you, dancing to your favorite summer anthems. If you are a fan of beers brewed with fruit, these stand out among the crowd!! I'm a big fan of THE BLONDIEwhich is a lighter beer with spice notes and citrus. I hunted these down and found where you can grab a can or 2 of your own here in Tennessee because, without a doubt, this will be your new go-to Brew!
